I made the body of this guitar and covered it with denim. It is outfitted with a Seymour Duncan PAF and a stock Fender Mexican single coil pickup in the neck position. I have attached a early 1980's Squier neck. It sounds magical, and plays great.

I built the body from 16 pieces of 3/4 inch mahoghany that I cut from a couple of 36 inch long milled boards. I don't have access to a woodshop, so all of my work was done completely by hand. After glueing together all of these pieces with pipe clamps, I drew on the position of all of the elements, and proceeded to carve out cavities with a hand drill and a very sharp 3/8 chisel. To complete the outside edge of the guitar, I used a spindle sander which I picked up secondhand.

I wet the denim and the guitar body top with water before applying carpenter's glue, then stretched out the fabric over top of the body, pulling it over the edge and stapling. I did this same process to top and bottom and let it sit for about a week before making strips for the sides.

I made a paper pattern for the outer strips first, then I created the strips on a sewing machine. Because I carved the body to resemble a stratocaster, I needed to make a specific outline to the upper strip. This was challenging, but ultimately very rewarding. Top and bottom strips applied lightly wet with carpenter's glue and hand pressure.

I was a little worried about the strips not sticking to the guitar, but with finger pressure while the glue was setting up seemed to do the trick. It has been over a year since the guitar was made and the glue is still holding after many nights out.

Before mounting the bridge tailpiece, I removed the denim from the body. I cut in a bit from the edge as I did not want frayed denim being visible. I mounted the string ferrules in the back easily.
